BCPPA

Greetings from the Brown County Pigeon & Poultry Association!

On Sunday February 7th, we had a meeting at the Watanwon County Fairgrounds following our first swap of the year. There were 15 members present. The meeting was called to order by president Doug Grams. Reading of secretary’s minutes from last meeting (8/17/09) were approved on a motion by Al Christle and a second by Don Roscoe. The treasurer’s report stated that we have $7,211.74 in our account. A detailed breakdown of expenses/profits was provided for the 2009 year. Report accepted on motion by Ed Christle and second by Al Christle, unanimous approval. Motion to adjourn was made by Joe Piehl and 2nd by Ed Christle. Lunch was provided by the Piehl family.

Old Business:

- The club did start a new website last year. www.bcppa.com . Please try to promote the site to members who may not realize its even up and running. Amy Piehl will update as needed with current swap dates, shows, results from shows, etc.

- $100 was given to Dennis Greibel as a Christmas present for all his work as caretaker of the Brown County Fairgrounds

- Our poultry show last year was Oct. 10-11th. It was dedicated to Wilmar Verwerk and had 1,107 birds exhibited. Our pigeon show was on Nov. 21st.

New Business:

- A suggestion was made to give a $25 gift card to the caretaker at the Watanwon County Fairgrounds for all their hard work. Approved on a motion by Don Roscoe and seconded by Larry Wilmes.

- Hosting a booth at the Farm City Hub Club Show on March 12-14th was discussed. Not enough interest to partake this year.

- April 24th is a open Poultry/Pigeon show hosted by the Watanwon County Poultry Patrol (4-H group). A big thank you to last year’s exhibitors and donations for the new cooping.

- September 18th is the All Wyndotte show at the Brown County Fairgrounds in New Ulm.

- Fall 2010 shows: BCPPA Poultry show is on Oct. 9-10th, MN State Poultry show is Oct. 23-24th, MN State Pigeon Show is Nov. 13th, and the date for the BCPPA Pigeon show is still undecided. Possibly need to move date, but have to check with Chinese Owl Club

- Getting judges lined up for the 2010 BCPPA shows was discussed. Don Roscoe is in charge getting ahold of Art Reiber and Kinickie (sp?) for 2 of the poultry judges. Amy Piehl will contact Eric Kutch.

- Dates for BCPPA spring 2010 swaps - Feb. 7 St James, March 21 New Ulm, April 10 New Ulm, May 2 St. James, June 13 New Ulm, July 10 New Ulm, August 14th St. James (tentative until fairgrounds are booked)

- It was decided to host 2 summer swaps. It was suggested to have more of these swaps on Saturdays if possible. Approved on a motion by Paul Lepinsky and a second by Ed Christle. Doug Grams was able to book the fairgrounds in New Ulm for July 10th. Trevor Nau is working on booking a date (Aug. 14th?) in St. James.

- Blood testing/health paperwork on birds for shows and swaps was discussed. The state vet was at our first swap and stressed that we have to comply with regulations in order to continue with the swaps. All poultry and gambirds must be tested for pullorum-typhoid and have to have numbered bands. Turkeys must be tested for MG & MS. Statement of origin paperwork must be completed on birds under 5 months of age. The club agreed it would involve having at least 2 people present at the gate to direct traffic and check paperwork. There is a training seminar on March 5th to become a certified testor.

2010 Election Meeting followed....

A suggestion was made to keep the current officers in place. Approved on a motion by Al Christle and seconded by Ed Christle. Unianimous approval.
